A gallbladder wall thickness of 3mm is abnormal, as the normal gallbladder wall is 1-2mm thick and consists of columnar epithelium. A gallbladder wall ≥3 mm is called a thickened gallbladder wall, which can be determined by ultrasound of the relevant area. Thickness of gallbladder wall is commonly associated with secondary gallbladder wall changes such as chronic cholecystitis, gallbladder adenomatous hyperplasia, cirrhosis, chronic heart failure, thick-walled gallbladder carcinoma, chronic nephritis, and hypoproteinemia, which should be differentiated. Thickening of the gallbladder wall can affect gallbladder contraction, bile stasis and induce gallstone formation. When the gallbladder wall is 3mm thick, patients with recurrent abdominal distension, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting after eating should pay more attention to the symptoms, and actively consult the doctor to prevent adverse effects.
