The Middle Epigastric Point is located in the upper abdomen, 4 inches above the middle of the umbilicus, on the anterior midline. The middle epigastric point is one of the important acupoints on the Ren vein, and the epigastric point is also the stomach’s capital. It is located 4 inches above the umbilicus, in the middle of the stomach, so it is called the middle epigastric region.
It has the effects of harmonizing the stomach and lowering rebelliousness (harmonizing the stomach qi to bring down the upward rebellious qi), strengthening the spleen and inducing diuresis (strengthening the spleen and stomach to facilitate the flow of water), and restraining acidity and relieving pain (restraining the stomach acid and relieving the pain), etc. It can be used for treating spleen and stomach disorders, such as stomach ache, abdominal distension, heartburn, and eructation (hiccups). For example, the middle epigastric point is paired with the Liangqiu point and the lower Juqiu point to treat stomach pain, and with the Tianshu and the Foot Sanli to treat diarrhea.
Note that the middle epigastric region is located in the abdomen and contains organs such as the stomach and intestines, so attention should be paid to the depth of acupuncture, especially for the thin and weak, so as to prevent the internal organs from being stabbed.
If you have symptoms, it is recommended to go to a regular medical institution for acupuncture operation, do not operate on your own to avoid causing adverse reactions.
