How long can a cast be removed depends on the location and severity of the fracture injury, and should be analyzed specifically. If the fracture is in the upper extremity, it usually needs to be fixed in a cast for about 1 month, and after 1 month, if the fracture heals well on film review, the cast can be removed for functional exercise. If the fracture is in the lower extremity, the fracture healing is relatively slower than the upper extremity. The removal of the cast should be delayed by 2-4 weeks accordingly. If the fracture is a comminuted fracture, the local blood flow is damaged due to the high violence of the fracture, so the cast fixation time should be extended accordingly, and it takes at least 6-8 weeks to remove the cast. During the treatment period, the patient should avoid putting weight on the affected limb and review the cast in the orthopedic department 2-3 weeks after fixation. Avoid removing the cast on your own, and follow the doctor’s instructions for specific matters after removal of the cast.
