What to do about slipped lumbar disc

A slipped lumbar disc requires surgical treatment. This is because a slipped disc can compress the nerves in the spinal canal and cause numbness and weakness in the lower extremities, even affecting the patient’s walking activities. Therefore, surgery is needed to remove the slipped disc and release the compression on the nerve to cure it. In case of instability of two lumbar vertebrae, internal fixation with pedicle screws and intraoperative bone grafting is required, and finally fusion of the two intervertebral vertebrae will be performed to avoid the recurrence of nerve compression symptoms after the surgery. A lumbar disc slippage requires an MRI or CT examination to determine the extent of the slippage, and in severe cases, surgery is required.
