What can happen to a child born to a syphilitic patient?

It is possible for a person with syphilis to give birth to a child with syphilis. Syphilis is a transmissible disease caused by infection with the syphilis spirochete. It can be transmitted sexually, by blood, or from mother to child. Due to changes in the permeability of the placenta during mid-pregnancy, syphilis spirochetes can be transmitted to the fetus through the placenta. Therefore, a pregnant woman infected with syphilis during pregnancy may give birth to a child with syphilis. Pregnant women with syphilis can transmit the syphilis virus directly to the fetus through the placenta, resulting in intrauterine infection of the fetus, which can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or delivery of a child with fetus-borne syphilis. Therefore, patients with syphilis should be treated in time and avoid sexual intercourse and pregnancy until cured.
