There is a kind of cold, called your mother thinks you are cold! It is up to the parents to decide how much clothing to wear for their babies. Dress your baby, wear more or less will be sick, in the end wear how much appropriate it? After reading this baby’s best “dressing formula”, mothers and fathers will not have to worry.
The pediatrician reminded: “Recently, there are more than 700 cases of children coming to the hospital every day with fever, and some kindergartens and elementary school have almost 1/4 of the children in a class with fever. Many parents ask, “Why do children still have fever when they are dressed warmly? Why is their resistance so weak? I always tell them to dress their children in less clothes. Many doctors find that many feverish children come to the doctor with sweaty foreheads and backs, with too many clothes covering them.”
When the weather turns cold, small children with fever syndrome start to appear. The fever syndrome, also known as “infant masked hypoxia syndrome”, or “infant smothering syndrome”, is seen in several cases every year in outpatient clinics, with severe cases of hypoxia, hyperthermia, sweating, dehydration, convulsions and coma, and even brain damage to the child. The doctor reminds: infants within 1 year of age, if there is a lot of sweating, purple face, should promptly check whether it is too hot to cover.
Fever 39.5 ℃ actually still wear three cotton jacket a sweater
A hospital pediatrician went out for half a day and saw 45 children, five of whom the physician took a look at and thought they were wearing too much.
Male infant, 6 months old, with fever of 39.5℃. The upper body wears thick cotton underwear + woolen shirt + cotton undershirt + silk cotton jacket, the lower body is thick cotton pants + woolen pants, and the whole body is covered with a stretch woolen one-piece cotton jacket.
The child was not in good spirits, lying on his grandmother’s back and not moving. The physician felt the child’s back, all sweaty, so he hurriedly asked the grandmother to take off the child’s silk cotton jacket and stretch wool one-piece cotton jacket to dissipate heat.
The baby girl, 10 months old, had a fever close to 40°C and her face was flushed. The child wore a cotton sweater + woolen sweater + silk cotton jacket + down jacket on top and thick cotton pants + woolen pants + silk cotton pants on the bottom.
Grandmother said that after drinking milk in the morning, the child began to throw tantrums and cry and quarrel, and no amount of coaxing would work. The doctor asked the grandmother to pinch the child’s underwear, the grandmother was so shocked that she screamed, “how wet it is,” and panicked, fished out a towel from the bag and stuffed it into the child’s clothes to absorb sweat.
The newborn baby under 1 year old, the body temperature regulation center function is not yet sound, in too cold or too hot can not automatically regulate, the ability to adapt to the outside temperature is very poor. Especially within 5 months of the baby, they drink milk easily sweat, heat production, sweating and heat dissipation is relatively slow, if mom and dad wrapped the baby very tight, it is easy to produce a high heat environment, resulting in baby heat stroke.
Wear enough, do not look at hand warmth should feel the collarbone and back
A boy, 8 years old, had a fever for five days and yesterday it was 39.5 degrees Celsius. The child wore a thin cotton sweater + woolen shirt + woolen thin undershirt + down jacket on the top and cotton woolen pants + jeans on the bottom.
The grandfather said that all 11 children in the class have a fever, and the teacher said that the fever can only go to school after it has subsided, for fear of cross infection. He was worried that the child’s hands and feet were cold every afternoon and the fever started in the evening, a fever of 39.5°C, meals were not eaten and the cough was very strong.
The physician felt the child’s hands and neck, the hands were cold and the neck was warm.
”There is a relationship between icy hands and fever.” She complimented the child’s grandfather and said, “Your child is dressed just right. Most children brought up by grandparents are dressed more. Many older people like to follow their own feelings to determine whether the child’s clothes are enough, thinking that the hands feel cool, add clothes to the child, and end up covering too much.
There are two ways to determine if a child is wearing too much clothing
First, feel the child’s collarbone, if the collarbone is warm, it means that the clothes are worn just right;
Second, feel the back, if the back of the sweat, or even clothes have been wet, it means that the clothes are too much, you should promptly reduce clothes.
Children wear the same number of pieces of clothing as adults or one less than adults
The pediatrician said his children also wore fewer clothes growing up. “My philosophy is that the less clothes a child wears, the better. Many parents have the idea that ‘children should wear more than adults,’ which is actually a misconception.”
Regardless of the season, babies should be given the option to wear cotton, silk or linen, clothes that absorb sweat without irritating the skin. Too tight, too thick clothing and pants will limit the baby’s movement and development, is not conducive to sweating, breathable, encounter cool breeze is easy to catch a cold. Children’s feet are prone to sweating, parents should often pinch the baby’s feet, found to be sweaty to replace the cotton socks.
Suitable for Chinese “dressing formula”
Temperature + clothing increase temperature = 26 ℃
Of course, different countries have different ideas, so it is really difficult to ask our children to wear shorts in winter like foreign children do.
So how do you know that your child is comfortable wearing so many clothes today? Is there a formula that can be quantified?
There is. A pediatrician spent three months to come up with a “dressing formula” for children. This is what she learned from her daughter’s experience. She said that when her daughter was in kindergarten in 2012, she also had colds twice a day, so she wanted to find out how much clothing was the most comfortable for her child.
From September 2012, she carried a thermometer with her to record the temperature of the day, what clothes her daughter wore when she had a cold, what clothes she wore when she was sweating, how much the indoor temperature was, and how much the outdoor temperature was.
After 3 months of practice, she came to the conclusion that the temperature plus the increase in clothes can be controlled at 26℃, which is the most comfortable dressing condition for children, so they won’t get cold and sneeze, and they won’t sweat when they move.
According to the measurement, each piece of clothing can increase the temperature: thick down jacket 9 ℃, thin down jacket 6 ℃, slightly thicker stretch wadding cotton clothes 5 ℃, thick wool sweater 4 ℃, cotton undershirt 4 ℃, fleece clothes 3 ℃, thin jacket 3 ℃, thick cotton sweater 2 ℃, thin cotton sweater is 1 ℃.
When the temperature is 26 ℃, wear a T-shirt is just right, with this as a benchmark, if the temperature drops 3 ℃, add a thin jacket is just right; drop 4 ℃, add a thick wool sweater on it. And so on.
