If your child falls asleep with a fever, the need to wake him/her up for medication depends on the specific value of his/her temperature and the accompanying symptoms. If your child’s temperature is below 38.5°C, he or she is breathing steadily and sleeping soundly, and there are no accompanying symptoms, you do not need to wake your child up to take medicine. If your child is sleeping soundly, it means that the fever is not making him/her uncomfortable and that his/her body functions can be greatly repaired during rest, so that his/her immune system can function better to cope with the disease. If your child’s temperature exceeds 38.5°C, or if he or she becomes irritable, pale, or breathes faster during sleep, you need to wake him or her up to take medication and, depending on the circumstances, physical cooling therapy, or take him or her to the hospital immediately for symptomatic treatment.
