There is usually no loss of sexual function after pituitary tumor surgery.
The pituitary gland is a structure right in the center of the brain that controls the body’s growth, electrolyte balance, and more. Pituitary tumor surgery, on the other hand, is performed on the pituitary gland area and may affect the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. During surgery, if the damage to the pituitary gland is small, the pituitary hormones, including sex hormones, are usually not affected.
However, if the tumor is large, there may be more damage to the pituitary gland during the surgery, thus affecting the secretion of sex hormones and other hormones, which may affect the sexual function in the later stage, but generally will not lose the sexual function. At present, the surgical treatment of pituitary tumor is more mature, and the interference to pituitary gland is getting smaller and smaller, therefore, the influence to pituitary gland’s endocrine function and sexual function is also smaller.
It is recommended that patients choose regular hospitals for pituitary tumor surgery.
