What to do if your child can’t hold his urine

A child’s inability to hold his/her urine may be caused by the nervous system, underdevelopment of the bladder’s detrusor muscle, or a urinary tract infection. Behavioral therapies, medications, and surgical treatments should be taken according to the different causes.
1. Clinically, for young children who can’t hold their urine, urinary incontinence, etc., the first consideration is that the child is small, the nervous system is not yet fully developed, so it is difficult to subjectively control urination, resulting in a large amount of drinking water after the emergence of can’t hold their urine, bedwetting, etc., usually do not need special treatment.
2. If urinary incontinence is clearly due to bladder detrusor underdevelopment, it is recommended that the child be instructed to exercise the abdominal wall and pelvic floor muscles by lifting up the anus, etc., and if this is still ineffective, the child can be treated with bladder neck suspension surgery.
3. If urinary tract infections such as urethritis and cystitis cause frequent urination, urinary urgency, incomplete urination and inability to hold in urine, it is recommended to take medications such as cefaclor for treatment.
Therefore, it is recommended to go to the hospital for further examination, under the guidance of the doctor to choose the appropriate treatment according to different causes, pay attention to the adverse reactions and contraindications of drugs.
