There is no evidence that Chlamydia trachomatis infection during pregnancy can cause adverse pregnancy outcomes such as miscarriage, preterm birth or fetal malformations, and this issue is still controversial. However, there is a real possibility of Chlamydia trachomatis infecting the foetus and newborn when a pregnant woman is infected. Therefore, prompt treatment is recommended upon detection.
