Eye ointments for conjunctivitis are currently divided into three main types: the first is antibiotic eye ointment, mainly used for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, such as erythromycin eye ointment, aureomycin eye ointment, etc.; the second is used for the treatment of viral conjunctivitis, such as ribavirin or ganciclovir eye gel; the third is glucocorticoid eye ointment, such as tobramycin dexamethasone eye ointment, which is mainly used for immune or allergic conjunctivitis. Because of its high viscosity, this ointment stays in the conjunctival sac for a longer period of time and therefore can exert a continuous anti-inflammatory effect.
