What’s a tracheotomy?

Tracheotomy is an emergency procedure to rescue critically ill patients. The method is to cut the skin and trachea in the neck, insert the cannula into the trachea, and the patient can breathe through the cannula and suction out the sputum through the cannula. It is mainly suitable for patients who are unconscious and need to suction out sputum; patients who have been using invasive ventilator for a long time; and dyspnea caused by laryngeal edema and tumor compression. The patient can clear the airway and keep breathing through tracheotomy, and after the condition improves, the trachea can be removed and the wound can be sutured.
