Paeonia lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza glabra soup is composed of two medicines: white peony and roasted licorice. Paeonia lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza glabra soup has the effects of acidity and sweetness to transform yin, and easing emergency pain (relieving more urgent pain symptoms). In this formula, white peony is sour, bitter and slightly cold, with the effects of softening the liver and relieving pain (treating pain caused by deficiency of liver yin and liver blood), benefiting yin and nourishing blood; while licorice is sweet and warm, with the effects of tonifying the middle Jiao and benefiting the qi (treating deficiency of qi by tonifying the spleen), and easing the urgency and relieving pain. The combination of the two herbs is effective in relieving pain, acid and sweetness, and transforming yin. Paeoniae Radix Glycyrrhizae Tang can be used to treat typhoid fever (a disease in which fever is caused by feeling cold) that injures the yin, leading to loss of nourishment of the sinews and veins, resulting in spasms of the legs and feet, heartburn, disharmony of the liver and spleen (inability of the liver and the spleen to work in harmony), and pain in the epigastrium (the abdomen). The adverse effects of Paeonia lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza glabra Tang have not been clarified. This formula is contraindicated in those who are allergic to the ingredients contained in this formula.
