What is a pancreas test? The pancreas is an organ of the digestive system; it is the digestive gland. The pancreas is located behind the peritoneum and is deep and soft and is usually not palpable. If the pancreas has a lesion it can show signs in the upper abdomen, in the upper middle abdomen or left upper abdomen, there can be a transverse formation of bands of tenderness or muscle tension and involves the left lumbar region, suggesting inflammation of the pancreas. If the onset of the disease is rapid, and there is subcutaneous bruising and bluish coloration in the coeliac region, quaternary ribs, and lower abdomen, it is suggestive of severe acute pancreatitis. If a hard, non-mobile, transverse striated mass is palpated in the epigastrium, chronic pancreatitis should be considered. If there is a hard mass, the surface is not smooth and a nodule is palpable, consider the possibility of pancreatic cancer. In this case, further investigations should be done, such as ultrasound, CT, and if pancreatic inflammation is suspected, the first step is to do the measurement of pancreatic amylase, which is mainly found in the pancreas and parotid glands, and under normal circumstances, the normal value of blood amylase is 30-135 U/L, and the urinary amylase is less than 1,000 U/L for 24h.
