Is red-eye contagious?

  Red eye, also called acute or subacute bacterial or viral conjunctivitis, is contagious and highly infectious. Viral infections are more likely to involve the cornea, so the symptoms of foreign body sensation and photophobia are more severe than those of bacterial conjunctivitis.  The main treatment is to remove the cause of the disease and anti-infection treatment, which is selected according to the condition, either topical if the conjunctiva is congested, or systemic, or a combination of medications. However, the affected eye should not be bandaged and shades can be worn to reduce the irritation of the sun on the eye. Generally, adults choose eye drops for topical treatment, while children need to choose eye ointment to avoid eye irritation caused by eye drops, and children may cry and cause aggravation of the disease.
