Medicine has advanced rapidly in recent years, minimally invasive techniques have surged, and genetic functions are increasingly being elucidated. The treatment of kidney cancer is also undergoing significant changes. (1) The classical status of open radical kidney cancer surgery is being challenged. Laparoscopic radical kidney cancer treatment is gradually phasing out open surgery. Numerous studies have shown the clear advantages of selectively performing surgery that preserves the kidney unit. Especially in recent years, the development of radiofrequency ablation and cryopreservation techniques has made it possible to “preserve the kidney” to the end. Moreover, minimally invasive techniques meet the minimally invasive requirements of patients, and at the same time meet the good treatment effect and have the advantage of repeated treatment, so that many high-risk patients with very poor physical condition can get the right treatment. (2) Adjuvant therapy: There has never been a “gold standard” program. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are generally recognized as having no specific efficacy, LAK factors have been withdrawn from the scene, and DC cell-induced specific tumor-killing cells are still being investigated. Interferons and interleukins have been shown to have some efficacy. The most prominent progress is the emergence of targeted drugs that further prolong the survival of patients with advanced kidney cancer, such as sunitinib and sorafenib, and bevacizumab. (3) Combination therapy: personalized and integrated treatment of tumor is always the principle of treatment. For example, minimally invasive treatment combined with immune adjuvant therapy, or minimally invasive treatment combined with targeted drug therapy, etc. The Department of Urology of Gulou Hospital insists on putting the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors in an important development direction, and has achieved obvious advantages. The level of diagnosis and treatment of urological tumors is at the forefront. We have successively introduced radiofrequency ablation equipment, cryoablation equipment, combined with the treatment of targeted drugs, which makes the comprehensive treatment of urological tumors truly manifest. Added on December 19, 2012: How to correctly view the value of minimally invasive treatment in kidney cancer? It can be said with certainty that minimally invasive treatment is bound to be very popular. In European and American urological guidelines, the value of minimally invasive treatment has been fully recognized. However, in Chinese urological guidelines, many people are biased against minimally invasive treatment because the development of such technology in China is in its infancy. However, Gulou Hospital has started early, with a high starting point and deep research in this area. It is foreseeable that in the near future, Chinese urological guidelines will rewrite the status of minimally invasive treatment. Therefore, I often say that “guidelines are not only for compliance, but more importantly, for breaking”. Only with the courage to “break the guidelines” can we become the trendsetter.
