The first short bowel syndrome treatment center was established in China — multidisciplinary joint treatment

  In order to further strengthen the effect of comprehensive treatment of short bowel syndrome, the Institute of General Surgery of the whole army established the Short Bowel Syndrome Treatment Center (IRTC) based on the Intestinal Rehabilition and Transplant Center, the director of which is Prof. Li Yousheng. Under the guidance of Academician Li Jieshou, the IRTC provides systematic, rational and appropriate treatment for patients with short bowel syndrome to promote better recovery of patients with short bowel syndrome. According to the patient’s needs, we selectively implement nutritional support, medical intestinal rehabilitation, non-transplant surgical intestinal rehabilitation (such as STEP) and small intestine transplantation, combined liver and intestine transplantation, combined abdominal multi-organ transplantation, etc.  Critical patients are admitted to ICU of General Surgery Institute of General Hospital. Scope of patients: 1. Short bowel syndrome nutritional support and small bowel transplantation; 2. Short bowel syndrome growth (STEP); 3. Short bowel syndrome gastrointestinal complications (such as intestinal obstruction, stricture, fistula, etc.) surgical treatment; 4. Short bowel syndrome liver, metabolic and other complications; 5. Treatment of causes of short bowel syndrome (radiation enteritis, intestinal obstruction, intestinal trauma, mesenteric ischemic disease); 6. Dietary guidelines for patients with short bowel syndrome; 7. Long-term follow-up and home treatment guidance for patients with short bowel syndrome.
