Can meniscus cysts heal on their own?

Meniscal cysts do not usually heal on their own. The cause of meniscal cysts is not known. However, it may be related to trauma, tissue degeneration, and meniscal deformity. Meniscus cysts often occur in the lateral meniscus, which can lead to symptoms such as pain and swelling on the outside of the knee, and in severe cases, can lead to meniscus damage, resulting in impaired mobility. Since the cyst is already present at the meniscus, it usually does not heal on its own and requires conservative or surgical treatment depending on the condition to alleviate the symptoms. If the symptoms of meniscus cysts are mild, they can be observed. However, if the swelling is accompanied by pain, surgery should be performed promptly to avoid aggravating the damage to the meniscus. Meniscal cysts can be effectively treated by minimally invasive surgery to trim or remove the lesion. Meniscus cysts should be treated in accordance with the doctor’s instructions in a timely manner, and should not be handled blindly, so as not to delay the condition.
