Montelukast is primarily indicated for patients with asthma and attenuating allergic rhinitis. Montelukast is used for the prophylactic and long-term treatment of asthma in adults 15 years of age and older, including the prevention of daytime and nighttime asthma symptoms, the treatment of aspirin-sensitive asthmatics and the prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. It is also used to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis in people 15 years of age and older. Montelukast is generally well tolerated with mild adverse effects. It can cause adverse reactions such as upper respiratory tract infections, increased bleeding tendency, immune system disorders, dizziness, somnolence, palpitations, diarrhea, dyspepsia, elevated aminotransferases, angioedema, pruritus, rash, pemphigus, arthralgia, edema, and fever. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women and is contraindicated in those who are allergic to Montelukast. If you need to use Montelukast, it is recommended to use it under medical supervision.
