Do lung cancer patients have to undergo puncture biopsy?

Puncture biopsy for lung cancer patients can clarify the pathological staging of lung cancer as early as possible and bring positive help to the treatment. Therefore, patients who can undergo puncture need to be given puncture as soon as possible to clarify the pathological staging as early as possible and adopt different treatment plans. Lung cancer puncture biopsy is mostly used for peripheral type lung cancer. If the lung nodule is larger than 8mm, accompanied by short burr, lobulated, pleural traction sign, pleural depression sign, etc., after chest enhancement CT examination, it is generally recommended to give percutaneous lung puncture. Percutaneous lung puncture can obtain effective pathological tissue to further clarify the pathological staging of the cancer, and the decision of surgical resection can be made based on the surgeon’s recommendation. If surgical resection is not possible for older patients, chemotherapy or gene targeted drug treatment can be determined according to the pathological staging. In the case of squamous lung cancer, chemotherapy is usually given. If the lung adenocarcinoma is accompanied by genetic mutation, gene targeting drug therapy can be given. In conclusion, if the lung cancer tissue is located in a relatively safe place, early lung puncture is usually recommended. Unless the mass is located near the large blood vessels of the heart and in riskier areas, enhanced CT of the chest needs to be given for accurate localization to assist puncture.
