Mannitol Dexamethasone is a commonly used clinical drug. Mannitol is an osmotic diuretic, mainly used for dehydration, can be used to treat cerebral edema from various causes, can reduce intracranial pressure, and is used to prevent the formation of brain herniation. It can be used to lower intraocular pressure. Dexamethasone is a long-acting glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and anti-shock effects. The combination of the two can be used in patients with swelling after spinal cord injury for the pain and numbness in the lower limbs that occurs when the lumbar spinal stenosis caused by disc herniation compresses the lumbar nerves. It can further reduce the degree of compression and the inflammatory response of the nerve root. Higher doses of dexamethasone are prone to diabetes, peptic ulcers and Cushing-like syndrome symptoms, with concurrent infections as the main adverse reactions. Dexamethasone and adrenocorticotropic hormone analogs have a history of allergy; hypertension, thrombosis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, psychiatric disorders, electrolyte metabolism abnormalities, myocardial infarction, visceral surgery, glaucoma, and other patients generally should not be used. Mannitol can cause chills, fever, dysuria and other adverse reactions, severe water loss, intracranial active hemorrhage, acute pulmonary edema, or severe pulmonary stasis and other patients are prohibited. In addition, dexamethasone combined with mannitol can be used to relieve obstruction symptoms caused by esophageal cancer as well as gastric cancer. The application of drugs has its indications and contraindications, which need to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis, and the above drugs should be used under the guidance of doctors.
