How to treat ventricular septal defects

The main treatments for ventricular septal defects are ventricular septal defect sealing and ventricular septal defect repair. For a few infants and young children, it can be left untreated for a while and can recover on its own.
1. Ventricular septal defect occlusion: Ventricular septal defect occlusion is a minimally invasive surgery with small trauma, fast recovery and less bleeding, suitable for patients over three years old, weighing more than 20 pounds, with a diameter of the ventricular septal defect of more than 3mm and less than 14mm, and with hemodynamic abnormalities.
2. Ventricular septal defect repair: this surgery is relatively more traumatic and belongs to open heart surgery, suitable for patients with severe large ventricular septal defects, medium ventricular septal defects accompanied by cardiac enlargement, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and recurrent lung infections, and small ventricular septal defects suggestive of cardiac enlargement, and dry-down type defects.
3. For mild perimembranous and muscular trabecular defects, they can be left untreated for the time being, and 20% to 50% of patients will close spontaneously within one week of age.
If a ventricular septal defect is diagnosed, you should communicate with your doctor and receive regular treatment to avoid life-threatening injuries.
