The correct method of CPR for drowning remains the same: CAB, i.e., chest compressions, maintaining an open airway, and artificial respiration. However, artificial ventilation is required before CPR.
According to the 2020 Chinese Expert Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Drowning Cardiac Arrest, after confirming that the drowning victim is unconscious and not breathing, artificial ventilation (opening the airway, artificial respiration) should be performed first, and rescue breathing should be given (2-5 consecutive ventilations), and then high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (chest compression, keeping the airway open, artificial respiration) should be performed.
Among them, the requirements for chest compressions are 100~120 times per minute, the depth of compression should be not less than 5 cm and not more than 6 cm, and the thorax should be completely rebounded after each compression to avoid interruption of compression as much as possible. The requirement of artificial ventilation is that the ratio of compression to ventilation is 30:2. Resuscitation should be carried out on a hard board or hard floor.
