There is no research to show how long it takes to get rid of acne with Chinese medicine, it depends on the individual.
Acne, diagnosed as “pimples” in Chinese medicine, is divided into many types from the point of view of Chinese medicine, the most common of which are wind-heat type in the lungs, damp-heat fumigation type, phlegm and stagnation type, as well as liver and kidney insufficiency type.
The Chinese medicines used to eliminate acne include red peony, bitter ginseng, xuan shen, astragalus, yellow dock, licorice, Zhimu, cypress, chrysanthemum, mulberry leaf and other medicines, which need to be used according to symptomatic and diagnostic combinations under the guidance of Chinese medicine practitioners. Chinese medicine practitioners can diagnose this disease with wind-heat syndrome of the lung meridian, giving loquat lung-clearing drink orally; damp-heat syndrome of the stomach and intestines, giving Artemisia capillaris soup orally; and phlegm-dampness coagulation syndrome, giving er chen tang combined with tao hong si wu tang orally.
The duration of treatment varies according to the type of symptoms and the person’s constitution, so it is not possible to determine how long it will take to have an effect. If the symptoms are severe, or if they persist and do not get better, the patient should go to the hospital for treatment.
