Abscesses in the auricle are mostly seen in purulent chondromyelitis of the auricle, which is caused by trauma, such as infection after burns, pulling irritation or other injuries. The main symptoms are swelling, pain, fever, redness and tenderness, and if an abscess forms, there is a fluctuating sensation when pressing. The main treatment is anti-infection. In the early stage, if an abscess has not formed, the main treatment is to control the infection with antibiotics, which can be combined with local physical therapy, such as infrared irradiation, to promote local blood circulation and promote the inflammation to subside. If an abscess has formed, the abscess needs to be surgically incised under anesthesia to allow adequate drainage of the pus, clean up the pus inside, and then place drainage strips and change the medication and pressure bandages daily with anti-inflammatory treatment. Some abscesses are located in the posterior root of the auricle and are caused by local cyst infection. The same treatment as above is needed during the inflammation period, and cystectomy is needed after the inflammation has improved to avoid re-infection and formation of abscess.
