Lung nodules 5-6mm serious?

Lung nodules 5 to 6 mm are mostly caused by benign diseases and are not serious; however, they also have a low risk of malignancy and are more serious if caused by lung cancer.
Lung nodules are imaging manifestations of many benign and malignant lung lesions. The general malignant risk of a 4 to 7 mm nodule is very low, about 1%. Therefore a 5~6mm lung nodule is less likely to be malignant and more likely to be benign.
If 5~6mm lung nodules are caused by benign diseases such as malignant tumors and tuberculosis, they are not serious and can be treated with drugs such as isoniazid or surgical resection to improve or recover, and their condition generally does not affect survival.
If 5~6mm is caused by bronchial lung cancer and other malignant tumors, it is more serious, and if not treated in time, it may affect survival and endanger life. However, 5~6mm lung cancers are mostly earlier lung cancers with better prognosis after radical surgery and other treatments.
Generally, regular follow-up of 5~6mm lung nodules is sufficient and no special treatment is needed. Patients are advised to consult their specialists for preliminary diagnosis of the cause of the disease in combination with other features of the nodule, such as nodule density, shape, calcification, etc., and follow the doctor’s instructions for follow-up or treatment.
