What is a mucinous tumor of the left atrium?

Left atrial mucinous tumors are the most common primary benign cardiac tumors.
Left atrial mucinous tumors are common benign cardiac tumors with a higher incidence in women than in men. Its main manifestation is systemic hemodynamic changes, which are characterized by palpitations, shortness of breath and even syncope, convulsions, and sudden death in some patients. Mucinous tumors may also present with recurrent fever, loss of appetite, weight loss and other symptoms. A few mucinous tumors take early peripheral artery embolism as the main manifestation.
Generally, once diagnosed, mucinous tumors need to be treated surgically as soon as possible to restore cardiac function and avoid sudden obstruction of the atrioventricular valve orifice, which can lead to sudden death. Surgical treatment of left atrial mucinous tumor is very effective.
If a left atrial mucinous tumor is present, it is recommended that treatment be initiated as soon as possible under a doctor’s evaluation to avoid delays.
