Why you can’t have chemotherapy for intraductal carcinoma of the breast

Intraductal carcinoma of the breast is not incapable of chemotherapy, but does not need adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery. Intraductal carcinoma of breast belongs to a kind of in situ cancer, the cancer foci of this kind of cancer are relatively limited, there is no invasion of peripheral and distant tissues, and there is no invasion of basement membrane, so the chance of recurrence and metastasis after radical surgery is very low, so chemotherapy is not needed. Postoperative chemotherapy for breast cancer is to reduce the incidence of recurrence and metastasis, which can play a role in improving the cure rate of the patients so that the patients can benefit and prolong the survival time. Compared with no chemotherapy, postoperative chemotherapy for patients with intraductal carcinoma not only can’t benefit patients clinically, but also may lead to physical damage due to the toxic side effects of chemotherapy on the body. Therefore, patients with intraductal breast cancer only need to take radical surgery and have regular review after surgery to detect their condition, and do not need to give chemotherapy.
