How long can babies see things at birth

After birth, the infant’s eyes already have a visual response and can see objects within 15 cm to 20 cm of their eyes. However, at this stage, the child’s optic nerve is not mature and has only a black and white perception of objects. After one month, the child can distinguish the shape and movement of objects in front of him/her. At 3-4 months of age, the child can see larger objects in the distance, and at 6-8 months of age, the child’s vision can reach 0.1-0.2. At about 5 years of age, the child’s vision is basically at the adult level.
