Precautions for measuring blood glucose

Note: 1. Do not stop taking your medication for fasting blood glucose, as the test results will not accurately reflect your condition, but will aggravate it. 2. For patients who inject premixed insulin in the morning and before dinner, if there is a delay in taking blood test in the morning, you can temporarily change the injection of “short-acting insulin” after taking blood and before eating, so as to eliminate the increase in blood sugar caused by the delay in treatment, and to avoid the delay in taking “premixed insulin” in the morning and evening on the day of examination. This can eliminate the elevation of blood glucose caused by the delay of treatment, and also avoid the interval between the two injections of “premixed insulin” in the morning and evening of the examination day. 3. For patients treated with oral hypoglycemic drugs, if the blood collection time is too late and the morning and noon drugs are too close to each other, the amount of noon drugs can be reduced as appropriate to avoid hypoglycemia caused by the superposition of drug effects. 4. For patients treated with medium-acting insulin injected before bedtime, the blood collection time for fasting glucose testing can be later because the hypoglycemic effect can be maintained until 8 to 9 o’clock the next day. 5. Do not go to the hospital to have blood drawn after insulin injection at home. Since the time to complete blood sampling is unpredictable, if the blood cannot be drawn within half an hour, it will inevitably delay the meal time, which may induce serious hypoglycemia. 6. If the time of blood collection cannot be determined, it is better to treat and eat normally at home in the morning, and then go to the hospital to measure blood sugar 2 hours after meal, which does not affect normal meal and medication and will not cause fluctuation of blood sugar. More and more studies show that postprandial blood glucose can better reflect whether the amount of meals and medication taken is appropriate. 7. Do not diet excessively the day before the test. In order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the test results, you should continue to maintain your usual diet and medication on the day before the test, and ensure a good sleep at night. Coffee, etc.
