A herniated lumbar disc is a relatively common disease, and many patients have experienced this. After a lumbar disc herniation compresses the nerve, it mainly causes pain in two areas, one is lumbar pain and the other is leg pain. 1. lumbar pain is characterized by trapped pain and discomfort in the lower back and some numbness; 2. leg pain is mainly characterized by pain transmission along the direction of the sciatic nerve, along the patient’s side of the waist, hip, through the back or lateral side of the thigh to the knee joint, then to the back lateral side of the calf or posterior side, and finally to the top or bottom of the foot. This pain characteristic usually worsens in the acute phase and does not decrease even when bedridden. This condition requires oral or intravenous medication to reduce the patient’s local inflammation and edema, thus reducing the pain. Outside of the acute phase, the pain can be reduced by oral medications as well as some non-surgical or surgical treatments.
