Poria has the efficacy of seeping dampness and inducing diuresis, strengthening the spleen, tranquilizing the spirit and tranquilizing the heart, and can be used for palpitations caused by phlegm, edema and urination, uneasiness of the heart and mind, insomnia and palpitations, deficiency of the spleen with little food, loose stools and diarrhea, etc. It is also used for treating palpitations and dizziness caused by phlegm, often combined with Atractylodes Macrocephalae, Cinnamon Stem, Licorice, etc. It is also used for treating oedema caused by deficiency of the spleen and kidney with Yang.
It is often used in combination with Ginger and Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori for the treatment of oedema due to Yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney, and should be taken with caution in cases of Yin deficiency without Dampness-Heat, Slippery Sperm in deficiency Cold, or Qi deficiency with subluxation.
