What are the serious consequences of allergic rhinitis

In severe cases, allergic rhinitis may be complicated by asthma with respiratory difficulties, allergic conjunctivitis, and more serious consequences such as smell disorders.
Allergic rhinitis is caused by an overreaction of the nasal mucosa due to exposure to environmental allergens such as pollen and dust. Common symptoms of allergic rhinitis include itchy nose (may involve itchy ears and throat), paroxysmal sneezing, watery nasal discharge, nasal congestion and so on.
1. Difficulty in breathing with asthma: In severe cases, asthma can be triggered by the backflow of long-term inflammatory secretions into the airways, and difficulty in breathing may occur due to mucosal edema and airway hyperresponsiveness.
2. Combined with allergic conjunctivitis: allergic rhinitis may lead to allergic conjunctivitis in the upward progression of allergic rhinitis, resulting in severe symptoms such as burning eyes and itching eyes.
3. Obstructed sense of smell: in severe cases of allergic rhinitis, the nasal mucous membrane edema or excessive secretion may block the olfactory area, and the ventilation of the nasal cavity may become poor, leading to symptoms such as decreased sense of smell.
When allergic rhinitis occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and under the guidance of the doctor for proper treatment.
