Is Umami high in calories?

Umami is relatively high in calories and is similar to regular sticky rice without fillings.
1. Umami is a staple food made by steaming glutinous rice that has been soaked in the juice of the southern candle leaf (also known as the leaves of the Umami tree).
Each 100g of raw glutinous rice provides 350kcal of energy, which is mainly provided by carbohydrates. Boiled/steamed glutinous rice can provide about 175kcal of energy, which is slightly higher than normal rice (about 120kcal of energy per 100g of rice).
2. Candle leaf juice adds little extra energy to umami because it provides little of the three energy-delivering nutrients, namely carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
3. Umami is one of the staple foods, which mainly serves to provide energy and is a high calorie food. The calorie content of umeboshi is further increased if it is dipped in white sugar and eaten.
