Patients with sunken eyes due to age, trauma resulting in fat atrophy, etc. usually do not recover naturally, and patients can be treated with autologous lipofillers and hyaluronic acid fillers to improve their appearance.
Sunken eyes can be caused by aging with age, or they can be caused by orbital trauma that results in orbital fat atrophy and other pathologic conditions. Significant sunkenness and atrophy of the eyes can have a major impact on the patient’s appearance, but generally does not affect eye movement or vision. Eye depressions generally do not return naturally, and patients can have surgical fillers to improve their appearance.
Depending on the degree of depression, autologous fat filler or hyaluronic acid filler can be used to improve the appearance of sunken eyes after the patient has completed the pre-operative examination such as slit lamp microscopy and electrocardiogram.
Patients with significant sunken eyes are advised to seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow their doctor’s instructions to choose the appropriate treatment.
