The presence of reduced bowel movements in the human body, along with a bulging abdomen, may be a sign of urinary retention in the human bladder. In this case, it is recommended to check the urological ultrasound for urinary retention, which is a complication of specific diseases, such as prostatic hyperplasia in men, or urethral stricture, or bladder outlet obstruction in women, or neurogenic bladder due to diabetic neuropathy. The spinal nerve damage caused by the application of certain drugs or the dysfunction of the spinal cord caused by trauma can cause urinary retention. Patients are advised to undergo timely investigations, such as urodynamics. A routine urine examination can also be performed to clarify the presence of concurrent urinary tract infections. After regular anti-inflammatory and symptomatic treatment, control of the primary disease and reversal of urinary retention are performed. This complication is more serious because more severe urinary retention can cause bilateral hydronephrosis, damage to renal function, or even lead to complete loss of renal function and the development of such a condition as uremia. Therefore, it is important to treat urinary retention in a timely manner when it occurs at an early stage.
