Can you take potassium chloride for a long time?

Potassium chloride should not be taken for a long period of time. Potassium chloride belongs to the category of injections and is used for intravenous potassium supplementation in patients with low potassium. One dose of potassium chloride is dissolved in 500 ml of saline or sugar water and dripped slowly from the patient’s vein. If the patient has low potassium, the patient can be allowed to take potassium chloride orally for a short period of time, but it should not be taken for a long period of time, which may lead to gastric mucous membrane damage, gastritis, gastric ulcer and even bleeding. Potassium chloride extended-release tablets can be taken orally, which can be dissolved and absorbed slowly after oral administration into the stomach and small intestine to correct the symptoms of low potassium in patients. Patients with low potassium should be actively examined to find out the cause of low potassium and undergo etiologic treatment.
