Any surgery carries some risk, and after eye surgery patients may experience complications such as secondary glaucoma, endophthalmitis, and eruptive suprachoroidal hemorrhage.
Many diseases of the eye need to be treated by surgery. Surgical techniques are now more sophisticated, but surgery is not absolutely safe and patients are still at risk for surgical complications. After refractive error correction surgery, patients may develop complications such as keratitis, secondary glaucoma, secondary cone cornea, and dry eye.
After cataract surgery, vitrectomy, and other internal eye surgeries, patients may develop complications such as endophthalmitis and eruptive suprachoroidal hemorrhage.
Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions for care after eye surgery, to have regular reviews, and to seek prompt medical attention when discomfort occurs.
