How to care for a paralyzed bedridden stroke patient

Many stroke patients cannot recover their paralyzed limbs after the acute phase, and some of them are even bedridden for a long time. In this case, whether it is medical personnel or relatives of the patient, the care work done for the patient is particularly important. (1) First of all, psychological care. As the patient is bedridden for a long time, there is a great psychological burden. On the one hand, they may lose confidence in the recovery of the disease, and on the other hand, they are always afraid of dragging others down because of themselves, so their mood is often depressed, and negative and pessimistic emotions fill their hearts. This negative emotion often affects the function of the patient’s whole body systems, resulting in loss of appetite, bloating and constipation, panic and shortness of breath, chest tightness and insomnia, etc. It also affects the patient’s active movement and slows down the recovery process. The physical discomfort will in turn increase the psychological burden, thus forming a vicious circle. Therefore, various measures should be taken to make the patient maintain a good state of mind and build up confidence to overcome the disease. (2) Secondly, life care. Patients should be given a good recuperation environment, with special attention to the cleanliness, softness and comfort of the bedding. Regular turning should be emphasized, usually once every 2 hours, while massaging the skin of the area. Pay attention to oral hygiene and clean the patient’s mouth and nasal cavity frequently. The diet should be nutritious and easy to digest, with more fiber-rich foods to facilitate the smooth flow of stool. Special attention should be paid to keeping the perineum clean and dry when handling stools and urine. Such and such life care, although tedious, but can always find a suitable rule for patients. As long as you stick to it, you will get it right. At the same time, don’t forget to use the patient’s initiative as much as possible, and don’t take care of everything.
