Elderly nosebleeds alert to strokes

Hypertension and arteriosclerosis are common in elderly patients with rhinorrhea. The bleeding site is mostly in the posterior nasal orifice and nasopharyngeal plexus, in addition to the location is more hidden, it is more difficult to check and stop the bleeding. Nosebleeds in the elderly are aggressive, bleeding in large amounts, not easy to stop by themselves, dangerous and easy to cause strokes. Nasal mucosal vessels are the most superficial and thinnest mucosal vessels in the human body. The elderly physiological function decline, the nasal mucosa tends to atrophy thinning, especially the elderly suffering from hypertension, arteriosclerosis, hardened blood vessels increased brittleness, in the role of emotional excitement, fatigue, smoking, alcohol, climate change and other triggers, a sharp rise in blood pressure, hardened nasal mucosa blood vessel wall can not withstand the impact of this impulse, resulting in the rupture of the nasal mucosa blood vessels bleeding. At the same time, the sudden rise in blood pressure can also cause the rupture of blood vessels in the brain and the occurrence of cerebral hemorrhage. According to statistics, more than 60% of elderly patients with rhinorrhea have a history of hypertension and arteriosclerosis.
