Tonsils cannot be palpated on the outside.
The tonsils are the palatine tonsils, located in the triangular tonsillar fossa surrounded by the palatoglossal and palatopharyngeal arches on both sides of the oropharynx, and cannot be palpated by palpation outside the body. Normal tonsils are flat and ovoid in shape, belong to a lymphatic epithelial organ, and are composed of lymphatic tissue, containing more connective tissue network and lymphoid follicular tissue.
Tonsils can also be divided into lingual tonsils located at the base of the tongue, which are granular and rich in mucous glands. Another common type of tonsil is the Eustachian tube tonsil, which is lymphoid tissue at the posterior margin of the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube. As well as the pharyngeal tonsils, which are found in the nasopharynx and are also called adenoids. None of the above different types of tonsil tissue can also be felt on the surface of the body.
