Prednisone does not usually cause hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a disease of hypermetabolism caused by excessive thyroid hormones, and can be caused by a variety of reasons, such as Graves’ disease, long-term large amount of iodine intake or iodine-containing drugs, choriocarcinoma, thyroid autonomous high-functioning adenomas and so on. Prednisone is an adrenocorticotropic hormone drug with anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects, and can be used for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus, nephrotic syndrome, etc. Adverse reactions such as elevated blood glucose, elevated blood pressure, infections, osteoporosis, electrolyte disorders, etc., may occur after taking the drug, but it usually does not cause hyperthyroidism. If hyperthyroidism occurs after taking prednisone, the patient can go to the hospital and ask the doctor to make a judgment and clarify the cause of the disease.
