The whole day is cheerful and smug. The examination of high mood is mainly a neurological examination. Patients show relaxed, happy, cheerful, self-congratulatory, joyful attitude, as if there is no trouble on earth. The elevated state of mind is often vivid, distinct, in harmony with the inner experience and the surrounding environment, and is infectious. Patients often describe themselves as “happy-go-lucky”, “overjoyed”, and “full of sunshine and splendor in life”. Emotional reactions may be unstable and irritable, and they may be irritated by small trivial matters or opinions being refuted or demands not being met, and may show destructive or aggressive behaviors.
