Lumbar paralysis and pain caused by deficiency of liver and kidney (weak function of liver and kidney) can be treated with medication and acupuncture. Medications can be used such as Dokwo Sangsang Tang (独活寄生汤) and Qi Ju Di Huang Wan (杞菊地黄丸). Dokwo Sangsang Tang is composed of Dokwo, Sangsang and Dudong, which is effective in relieving paralyzing pain, benefiting the liver and kidney, and tonifying qi and blood. It is contraindicated for pregnant women. Qi Ju Di Huang Wan is composed of Chinese wolfberry, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix et Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Dampi and other drugs, which have the effect of nourishing the liver and kidneys. Both of these drugs can be used to treat patients with deficiency of liver and kidney. Avoid indigestible food while taking Qi Ju Di Huang Wan. Not suitable for patients with fever and cold. If symptoms are not relieved after 4 weeks of taking the medicine, one should go to the hospital for consultation. Besides, acupuncture points such as Yanglingquan, Huizhong, Chengshan and Kunlun can also be used to relieve back pain. Patients with deficiency of the liver and kidneys, in addition to low back pain, may also suffer from hot flashes (bouts of fever) and night sweats (abnormal sweating after going to sleep, but sweating stops after waking up). In daily life, spicy food should be avoided, sufficient rest should be ensured, and staying up late should be avoided. Specific treatments should be chosen under the guidance of a doctor and then taken under the doctor’s direction. Acupuncture needs to go to a regular medical institution for treatment.
