Carboprost suppositories are a prostaglandin preparation that is more commonly used to promote uterine contractions. There are two ways to use this drug: first, orally, by placing the drug under the mother’s tongue and absorbing it through the blood vessels under the tongue mucosa, thus promoting uterine contractions. Second, by placing two carboprost suppositories in the anus of the mother, which also promotes uterine absorption by acting on the rectal mucosa. Since this drug is a prostaglandin preparation, it should not be used in general if patients with asthma and glaucoma.
