The duration of blue light exposure for baby jaundice depends on the type and severity of jaundice as well as individual circumstances, and should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. If the jaundice is physiological, in the absence of other uncomfortable symptoms, the baby can usually be exposed to more sunlight, which can gradually subside in 7-14 days. If the jaundice is pathological, it is usually treated with blue light irradiation for about 4-8 hours each time. If the jaundice is mild, blue light irradiation is usually sufficient for 3-4 days; if the jaundice is moderate, i.e., a bilirubin index of 16 mg/dl, blue light irradiation is required for 5-7 days. If the jaundice is severe, the duration of blue light irradiation is usually 12-16 hours, and the treatment should be continued for more than 7 days. During blue light treatment, care should be taken to protect the baby’s eyes by wearing a light shield and protecting the perineal area by wearing diapers. In addition, attention should be paid to timely hydration, riboflavin, and calcium supplements.
