Can vaginal ultrasound detect cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer cannot be detected by vaginal ultrasound. In early stage of cervical cancer, the lesions are small and usually no obvious abnormality can be seen on vaginal ultrasound. For middle and advanced cervical cancer, when the lesions are large, abnormal echoes in the cervix may be detected on vaginal ultrasound, but the diagnosis needs to be further clarified by pathological results of cervical biopsy. Vaginal ultrasound is not the main means of cervical cancer screening. Early stage cervical cancer should be diagnosed by the “three-step” procedure of cervical cytology and HPV testing, colposcopy, and cervical biopsy, and the diagnosis should be based on histologic diagnosis. If there are abnormal symptoms such as bleeding during sexual intercourse or irregular bleeding, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to confirm the diagnosis with relevant examinations under the doctor’s guidance, and without abnormal symptoms, you can also undergo regular physical examination to find out whether there is any risk of cervical cancer.
