FDA approves new AIDS drug

Edurant, a drug used in AIDS cocktail therapy, can help reduce blood levels of HIV by taking one capsule a day with a meal, according to the FDA.

The drug’s safety and efficacy have been demonstrated in a 48-week clinical trial in which 1,368 HIV-infected patients participated.

Edurant does not cure HIV infection. Patients should receive ongoing HIV treatment to control and reduce HIV infection and HIV-related illness.

The most common side effects of this drug include depression, insomnia, headache and rash.
