Does dysentery heal on its own?

Dysentery, usually referred to as bacillary dysentery, does not usually resolve spontaneously and requires active treatment. Only some patients with mild symptoms have a certain degree of self-healing. Bacterial dysentery is a disease caused by Shigella infection of the intestinal tract due to unclean diet or drinking water, mainly manifested as inflammation or ulceration of the rectum, sigmoid colon and other parts of the rectum, which is mainly transmitted through the digestive tract. The onset of bacillary dysentery is generally more acute, the symptoms are also very obvious, mainly manifested as abdominal pain and diarrhea, acute and severe, high fever and chills, etc., the stool can be manifested as dilute watery stools, and in severe cases, mucus pus and blood stools can also occur. Bacterial dysentery does not usually heal on its own and requires prompt treatment. Currently, bacillary dysentery is mainly treated by replenishing body fluids, antipyretic, analgesic and anti-infective with antibiotics. After active treatment, most of the patients can be cured within 1~2 weeks. However, if the treatment is not timely, it is easy to develop into chronic bacillary dysentery and even cause serious complications such as Shigella sepsis and hemolytic uremic syndrome. Therefore, once diagnosed with bacillary dysentery, it is recommended to actively receive treatment, and can not take the chance of self-cure, so as not to delay the condition.
