Potatoes are cultivated throughout China. The immature or germinated tubers have lobeline, toxic lycopene, trypsin, chymotrypsin, cytisine and hemagglutinin. Poisoning manifests with burning sensation in the throat and dizziness. In severe cases, irritability and a weak pulse are present. Immediately after potato poisoning, the potatoes or toxic substances eaten should be expelled from the body as soon as possible, and the common methods are vomiting and diarrhea. If vomiting or diarrhea occurs in the early stage of the disease, the patient may not need to stop vomiting or diarrhea for the time being, and consider antiemetic and antidiarrheal treatment after the poison is expelled. In addition, if the vomiting and diarrhea are severe, the water and electrolytes in the body should be replenished to correct the water and electrolyte imbalance caused by the vomiting and diarrhea. Secondly, symptomatic treatment is the main concern. For abdominal pain and diarrhea, antispasmodic and analgesic can be given, commonly used is gastrofacial, and for diarrhea, montelukast can be applied. Gastric mucosal protective agent can also be applied to protect the gastric mucosa, and antibiotics can be applied to prevent or treat gastrointestinal tract infections. If the poisoning is serious, it can also be detoxified by blood purification. In case of serious symptoms, such as shock, coma and convulsions, appropriate resuscitation measures should be given immediately.
